We read all the reviews, both good and bad, and after careful consideration, we made the purchase. My son is thrilled and so are we. Even though it's quite pricey, it serves two purposes. It provides hours of fun and it really is educational. He has to read and follow instructions on how to build examples provided on the Lego site, but he also has the ability to design and create his own inventions.
I think Lego should have provided a nicer LCD screen, instead of the "older" black and white technology. And for the price, it should also include a case with storage containers. I solved that problem by buying plastic jewelry storage containers at Hobby Lobby for $1.49 each. The containers fit most of the components perfectly and allows my son to organize all the floating parts.
